What is all of this about?
ELLIOT
Just sit down, I will explain it all.

Ok.

ELLIOT

Media Studies Homework
Types of shots I will use in my production.

Medium Long Shot
I will use this shot when showing the person walking down the corridor and up to the door. I only want you to see him from his knees up so this shot would be the best to use.

Close Up Shot
I will then use a close up shot of the door handle on the corridor side so you can see him opening the door and you can see the door open

Medium Long Shot (2)
I will then do another medium long shot on the other side of the door to show that he has entered the room and the shot will pan so that you can see him go and sit down at a desk at the front of the classroom.

Shot Reverse Shot - Close Up Shot
I will then do shot reverse shot while the two people are talking because it shows who is talking and also lets you see facial expressions.

Long Shot
Shows the person walking out of the room and lets you see all the things that he throws about and still allows you to see him at the same time. Allows you to see him leave through the door.

Extreme Long shot
Shot from outside of the room shows the person kicking lockers and running down the hall in anger and you can tell through his body expressions.

180 degree rule.
The 180 degree rule is an imaginary line that is drawn though the frame, this is called the axis. Keeping the camera makes things like interview better because person 1 will always stay on the right side of the frame and person 2 will always stay on the left side of the frame. Moving the camera to the other side of the “axis” makes the frame flip causing person 1 to be on the left of the frame and person 2 to be on the right of the frame.

Shot reverse shot
Shot reverse shot is a film technique that films the face of 1 actor who is speaking and once he has finished it cuts to another scene of the 2nd actor who is in the conversation. They do this because it lets us see their full face so we can read their emotion. It also makes the scene less boring for the viewer as the camera is always changing and we can get a better feel for how the actor reacts.

Match and action
Match and action is when you film someone walking up to a door and when he gets to the door and opens it you then record him exiting the door on the other side. This allows the action shot to carry on in another place. Another example would be when throwing a ball of paper into a bin. First you film the thrower and then you record the paper falling into the bin. Even if the thrower doesn’t get the paper in the bin the editing makes it look like he did in the first attempt.

180° Line of Action
Using an imaginary line to avoid the camera from taking shots behind the line further than 180°. If shots are taken beyond the line, the scene is flipped and can become confusing to the audience, causing them to miss out on dialogue.

Shot - Reverse - Shot
This is when two camera shots show one character speaking to another character, who is off the screen, then the shot changes when the other character speaks to show the second character speaking. The position of the camera is often over the shoulder. Shot-reverse-shot is often used for scenes of dialogue.

Match On Action
This is when two shots are edited together to show one shot matching another shot. An example of this, is when a character is shown walking towards a door, and a separate shot shows the man pulling the door handle. Then, one final shot shows the character walking through the door from outside. This technique allows the scene to flow and run smoothly.

INT.COLLEGE CORRIDOR
The corridor is brightly lit and the walls are covered with
eye catching posters.
ELLIOT walks down a corridor and enters a room.

INT.COMPUTER ROOM
The room is dark and filled with computers. Some are piled
high on desks. Some are placed neatly around the edge of the
room.

ELLIOT sits at the front desk with BEN sitting opposite.

ELLIOT
(Confused)
Why are the old computers piled up
                   on those desks?
BEN
They were no use to us, they didn’t
                   work at all.

ELLIOT
All those computers were fine,
there was no need to spend all that
                   money just to change them.

                                BEN
                   They were slow and needed
replacing. If you have a problem
with it, see the management office.

ELLIOT
(Angry)
                   Okay, fine!

ELLIOT begins to smash all of the new computers that are
placed around the edge of the room in anger and walks out of
the room leaving BEN stunned and shocked.

                                BEN
                         (Surprised)
                   Well then.
