Continuity In Film

Continuity in Film
180 degree rule:

The 180 Degree rule is a rule that means that two characters should always have the same left and right relationship to each other. When a camera crosses the ‘axis’ connecting to two subjects it is called ‘crossing the line’. The new shot is called the reverse angle. Crossing the line is a very important concept in video and film production. It refers to an imaginary line which cuts through the middle of the scene, from side to side with respect to the camera

Shot-Reverse-Shot:

Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other. It is a shot that views the action from the opposite side of the previous shot, as during a conversation between two actors.

Match on Action:

Match on action means that when something happens in the scene then when there is a cut the same piece of action must be going on. This is an example of continuity editing and is very important in helping the audience continually understand exactly what is happening.
